Lime bark for cordage

I just bumped into a lime tree where the bark is semi prepared. The tree is dead and still standing. The bark has started to rot and all the fibres and becoming exposed. In just pealed of great length with my hands. What a great find.

Here is a photo from near by of a fallen Lime with suckers growing up.

Blackthorn first to flower

Blackthorn is the first to flower when compared to hawthorn and hawthorn is the first to have leaves. So in the spring this is the easy way to tell them apart.

Pheasants eggs

A few days ago we noticed this clutch of pheasants eggs. The mother never seems to be there so I suppose they are all cold. Every few days another egg appears, I wonder when it will end?

Went to bed with ice forming on the car and this morning delivered the first heavy frost of the year.

First leaves of Autunm

As I was driving around I notices the first leaves of autumn falling. I love to watch the trees change colour, the autumn berries ripen. The headgerows come alive with colour, red from the Rose hips ans the dark blue of the Sloes I have plans to make Sloe gin or vodka, watch this space…
